Dr. Roxanne Ocampo

Dr. Roxanne Ocampo is a proud Latina mom and author of five award-winning non-fiction books (available en Español) focused on college admissions. She is the CEO of Quetzal Mama™ – a college admission coaching practice for Latinx students. She has coached more than 10,000 students since 2010. She runs Quetzal Mama Scholars, a year-long, intensive college admissions program for students in North San Diego County. She conducts workshops and boot camps throughout the U.S. focused on college admission strategies. Her workshops cover K-5, middle school, and high school strategies for college admission and competitive scholarships. The students from her practice have earned admission to the most prestigious universities as well as national scholarship awards.

Dr. Ocampo received a Doctorate in Education at the University of California at San Diego, where she received a full fellowship. Her Dissertation and research topic was “Undermatching” of low-income, first-generation, high performing, Latinx students. Her Dissertation was recognized with a $1,000 cash prize at the 2018 Outstanding Dissertation Awards at the AAHHE Conference. She holds a Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in English from California State University East Bay. The theories and philosophy that guide her teaching and publications are situated in Critical Race Theory. She was born and raised in the Bay Area (San José) and resides in San Marcos, California. Her work has been featured on ABC News, Good Day Sacramento, and Sacramento & Co. She is a feature writer for regional and national magazines and has coached thousands of students throughout the US.

Roxanne is married to Dr. Arturo E. Ocampo—an expert in Diversity & Inclusion and a Civil Rights and Education Law Attorney. Together they have raised three phenomenal hijos: Carlos José (UC Santa Cruz Class of 2015), Gabriella (Harvard Class of 2015 & Harvard Medical School Class of 2021), and Emilio (UCLA, Biophysics class of 2024).
